Our Team

Dr. Raj Gopalakrishnan is Professor and Director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, School of Dentistry at the University of Minnesota.  He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.  He has been at the University of Minnesota since 2002 and in addition to participating in the University Oral Pathology Laboratory he has an active research lab that investigates the role of bone morphogenetic proteins and twisted gastrulation in bone remodeling.  Other research interests include bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of jaw and molecular basis of oral carcinogenesis.

Dr. Ioannis Koutlas is Associate Professor in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and Director of the University of Minnesota Oral Pathology Laboratory.  He received his DDS degree from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Athens, Greece, and trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the University of Minnesota where he was also granted his Masters of Science degree.  He is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.  Dr. Koutlas has published multiple articles and book chapters in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and has given lectures and seminars nationally and internationally.  His special interests are soft tissue and bone pathology, syndromes of the head and neck- especially neurocristopathies, genodermatoses and mosaic (somatic) disorders with orofacial manifestations.
